The Rest of the Story

I have been a life-long admirer of Paul Harvey, the man with the distinct, crystal, clear voice, who has given us the rest of the story, again and again.  Paul Harvey said his final, “Good day,” a few days ago, as he signed off from this life, at the age of 90.

One of the things that I most appreciated about Paul Harvey was his commitment to morality and integrity.  I read an article, many years ago, which he wrote about profanity.  He talked about how a person with a good command of the language has no need of profanity, and that he had made the decision as young man not to use it.  He had a policy of not advertising anything that he didn’t use himself.  My mother developed macular degeneration, and one day she told me about some all natural supplements that she believed would help her condition.  She had heard them advertised on the radio.  I quickly told her that you can’t believe those radio ads, but she said, “Well, I believe this one, because it was Paul Harvey who advertised it!”  Well, she got the supplements and has now been taking them for several years, and her eyesight has greatly improved.  She gets a six month supply, and when it’s time to reorder, I do that for her.  She reminds me by saying, “I need some more of that medicine Paul Harvey advertises.”

Paul Harvey was a man of the highest caliber, and that’s the rest of the story!
