Grounded in the Word

There are many interpretations of certain scriptures, therefore, there are many different doctrines.  Ephesians 4:14 says, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.”   This means we need to know what we believe.

While we do need to know what we believe, we need to keep a teachable mind and heart.  Some folks get so grounded in their belief, you can’t teach them anything!  This was much the condition of the Jews of the first century.  They could not possibly accept that Jesus was the Messiah, because He just didn’t fit into their predetermined box that the Messiah would have to fit.

Our doctrines (what we believe) are to be determined by the word of God, the Bible.   Even if our dearly beloved ancestors have said something different, even if our church teaches something different, the Bible is the ultimate in correctness.  Romans 3:4 says, “…let God be true and every man a liar…”
