Mr. Hudson,
I can see from what you wrote that you took great pride in your 'wonderful family', but did you put your wife first. I mean after your relationship with God? So many times it is easier for a man to spend the majority of his time on the things he gets pats on the back for. This might be his job, or for deacons, doing things at church or for other members. When things are stale or neglected at home, it is too difficult to 'minister' at home, rather console himself with his good deeds, eventually to the breakdown of the marriage. Your wife didn't decide overnight to 'live for herself'. A deacon should be mindful of his marriage relationship above all other duties, then perhaps he won't find himself, a deacon, married to a second woman.

A WONDERFUL ARTICLE! How I wish we could get every church to understand the importance of Sunday School Enrollment! I pray your article is doing that in your church and is being picked up via inernet to encourage others.

May I have permission to copy and use your article in conferences I will be leading this fall in several churches in North Carolina? I will add an appropriate credit line at the bottom of the page and will include a link to this article on your web site.

Also, on my web site I would like to provide a link on the side of a similar article I've posted. http://www.sundayschoolnow.net/do_not_drop_names_unless.htm

God's richest blessing be yours as you continue faithful!

If the terminology, “two living wives,” applies to a divorced man, then the question arises as to whether or not he should be admitted to church membership. If a drug pusher desired church membership, but wasn’t willing to stop selling illegal drugs, the attitude of the church would likely be that he would need to be committed to ceasing his sinful activity before coming into the church family.

This is not qualifications for membership but for being in church leadership. The drug deal would not be blameless or beyond reproach.
"Most people really do not view a divorced person as having two living spouses."
God does.

"That is clearly saying that someone that is a polygamist cannot pastor a church."
1 Timothy 5:9 Rules this out. NKJ, or 1984 NIV.
"God sometimes calls men who have been divorced to preach and/or pastor."
God calls all men to teach, not to be shepards.

1 Timothy 5:9 clearly shows it is divorced, with perhaps divorced/abandoned and never remarried allowed. Jesus allows for Divorce, but never says one should remarry, (actually says one should not), and not every christian needs to be above reproach.

Joe, as the article stated, when someone makes it clear that they do not want God in their life, or as in your case, refuses to even believe that there is a God, I have to respect that. I can only tell you that Jesus Christ, God the Son, has changed my life completely, and I can't get over how much better my life has been these 35 years since He had done so. I've been a pastor for more than 30 years, and I have seen hundreds of people receive a meaningful life through their personal relationship with the Living God, and I have heard many of them tell what a wonderful change it has been.

We are all going to die, Joe. When you and I die, if I have been wrong, I will have lost nothing. I have had a wonderful, happy life, and I have seen miraculous things happen. So, if I die and am wrong, I'll just be dead. But if you die, and you are wrong, you will have an eternity of suffering and regret in place of perpetual dying without being able to really be dead. Certainly, that doesn't have to be your end, because the very God you deny, loves you and calls you to Himself. I will pray for you.

Listen you credulous morons---there is no god--you are deluded whack jobs the lot of you. It's YOU who need saving from your own gullibility for you are drowning in the pus bucket of bronze age ignorance. Christianity is a fraudulent and disgusting belief system. The morality ranges from irrational to downright barbaric and the stories and claims are ludicrous beyond belief.

Christianity is nothing but a fear based control system that has destroyed your humanity, shut off your faculty for reason critical thinking and turned you into slaves and automatons. To attempt to make me anything like you is greatly offensive to me.

Your threats of hell are sickening examples of just how evil your belief system truly is and how messed up you are to believe it. Christianity is a mockery of science, of reason and of decency. These superstitious beliefs have poisoned the mind of man for too long---it needs to be wiped off the face of the earth to pave way for a new era of reason and freedom.

Eli, I don't think you are confused, because you are certainly asking the right questions. I think being a pastor has always been a hard job, one that requires the Holy Spirit to keep a fire in the preacher's heart for the work. Many people today do not give much of themselves to the Lord's work through their local church, because they have come to see it as something they have "hired" others to do. Of course, this is wrong. The only hope of overcoming that is to keep reminding folks from the pulpit, and in small group studies, that everybody has a responsibility. As to how to know if you are in the right church, the first question one should ask is the doctrine question. Is the doctrine being taught and preached biblically correct? Then, one should ask about the vision of that local congregation. Does there seem to be a desire among the people to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord, and is there a desire to reach outsiders with the gospel? If the answers to those questions come up, "no," then in my judgement, you are not in the right church. Only then should a person ask the question that most people ask first: how do I fit into this church? I'm sure you know the answer to your last question. God bless you and thanks for your comment.

I Believe being a pastor now a days is very hard job. People expect for the pastors to do everything. Most Pastors work overtime in the ministry. I read on one of the previous comments about " not enought people who want to serve", i have heard people said" i just give whatever time i have "Left over" and thats the time i spend in church". So how do you overcome that? Who do you work with if thats the attitude people have? Now a days Church is not a priority in the american culture. People find reasons not go to church. We have mega churches who offers entertainment( the lights, the music, pretty people on stage doing worship)(dont get wrong all of that is good ) 15 minutes preaching and most of it is just to make you feel good, but when you leave out the door you leave empty. How do you know if you are in the right church or not? How do you measure a church success? Is it by how many people go or is it by how many people have been transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit? Im confused???

The Bible states husband of one wife. That is clearly saying that someone that is a polygamist cannot pastor a church. There is nothing in that verse about only having one living wife. The word "living" is not there. If God calls a man to preach, then he better be about the Father's business. If God calls a man to pastor, then again, he better be about the Father's business. God sometimes calls men who have been divorced to preach and/or pastor. If the Holy Spirit bears witness with these men, then you better leave them alone. I think people need to be more concerned about winning lost souls than worrying about someone that's divorced doing what God wants them to do.
